I write this anniversary brief with mixed feelings, drawn betwixt variables, the first my unyielding passion for a NEW Nigeria, the second my life as a Political Activist, and the third my proclivity as a Buharist. However, it MUST and will always be COUNTRY FIRST.
God help us, may the euphoria of CHANGE not blind us to the huge challenge before us. May populism not overtake studied proactive policy programmatic. And may praise-singing not predominate the socio-political space such that Buhari/Osinbajo may appear infallible.
We must be careful to avoid the pitfalls of the past, we must grow men who can speak the truth to power and rather than court court-jesters leadership must court brave men. Bandwagonism will do us no good, deep research will do us profound good.
Within the 125days of this regime I have sang sonorous pro-Buhari melodies, I have also vehemently differed on a few stance of Mr President, I think that the slash of his Salary and the VP's by 50% was without legal input, little wonder the jumbo pay of lawmakers remain untouched. I think that the Single Govt Account paradigm should have allowed the Federal Govt to keep one Account in each of the less than 20 Commercial Banks with a Central Bank Supervisor as a liaison between the Banks and the CBN so the Banks can survive without the present massive sack of workers.
I think that Former President Obasanjo was wrong in making himself Petroleum Minister. Since our Constitution compels Senatorial ratification for any Minister, will our Dear President appear before the Senate to be screened?
For the Eagle to soar, we must embrace CHANGE top to bottom and kill impunity, opportunism and sheer populism.
Finally, we can gain speed on our path to greatness when we commit ourselves more to the good of our nation, than to the wholesale praise-singing of leadership that presently obtains.
God Bless Nigeria.
