NBC News reports, authorities stopped Emma Soriano, 61, after she arrived at JFK from Mexico City on Friday. A baggage inspection revealed that she carried $300,000 worth of heroin inside of her luggage. The drugs were confiscated by customs agents and Soriano was taken into custody.
The New Jersey resident faces federal charges of narcotic smuggling.
Her case was handed over to Homeland Security Investigations and will be processed by the Eastern District of New York. It was unclear if Soriano has an attorney for the case.
