The crisis between a former governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, and the state House of Assembly under the leadership of Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, took another dimension on Tuesday.
The Assembly had earlier ordered Ambode to appear before it at 9am on October 30.
But, in a twist to the matter, the former governor headed for court, where he secured an order, counter-summoning the Assembly presiding officers and members of the committee probing him to appear in court at 9am on October 30.
Interesting!
In granting the counter-summons, Justice Y. A. Adesanya of the High Court Ikeja specifically ordered the Speaker to appear before him in connection with the ongoing probe of the procurement of 820 buses by the Ambode administration.
Justice Adesanya gave the order after hearing a motion ex-parte moved by Ambode’s lawyer, Tayo Oyetibo.
The court also ordered the Assembly Clerk, A. Sanni, who signed the newspaper advertisement, inviting Ambode to the Assembly by 2pm.
Others are: the Chairman of the Ad hoc Committee set up by the House to probe the procurement, Fatai Mojeed; and members of the Committee, including Gbolahan Yishawu, A. Yusuff, Yinka Ogundimu, Mojisola Meranda, M. Makinde, Kehinde Joseph, T. Adewale and O. Afinni.
The former governor had instituted a suit against the Assembly to contest the constitutionality of the probe of the buses, which were procured based on budgetary approval, as part of the Bus Reform Project of the state government designed to revolutionise public transportation in line with global best practices.
Justice Adesanya ordered the originating processes and all the accompanying processes filed by the claimant (Ambode) to be served on the defendants and subsequently fixed today (October 30) for hearing of motion for interlocutory injunction. All eyes on Lagos to see how the event will play out today.
