United States Evacuate American Citizens From Iraq As Tension Escalate Over Killing Of Qassem Suleimani

United States Government has asked all American citizens to leave Iraq immediately as tension over the killing of Iranian general, Qassem Suleimani in Baghdad early Friday rises.
The U.S. embassy in Iraq issued the warning on Friday morning, hours after the incident.
The embassy advised citizens to leave the country via the airports and to avoid going to the embassy under any circumstances as it would be shut and would not be safe.
Tension has continued to over the killing with Iraqi government and several Shia groups, including Hezbollah condemning it. Hezbollah has also vowed to take revenge.
Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei had vowed that the US would face “severe revenge” for the “assassination” after he ordered three days of mourning over the incident.
Israel has put its soldiers in high alert, while the Chinese foreign ministry has called for calm and restraint from all sides.




Suleimani who ran Iranian military operations in Iraq and Syria, was targeted while being driven from Baghdad airport by local allies from the Popular Mobilisation Units (PMU). The deputy head of the PMU, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandes, a close Suleimani associate, was also killed in the attack.
“General Suleimani was actively developing plans to attack American diplomats and service members in Iraq and throughout the region,” a White House statement said after the incident.
“This strike was aimed at deterring future Iranian attack plans. The United States will continue to take all necessary action to protect our people and our interests wherever they are around the world.”
