Murder charge: Court remands Ekiti lawmaker, six others


A magistrate’s court sitting in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, on Wednesday remanded a member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly from Emure Constituency, Kehinde Boluwade, with six others in prison over the alleged killing of Foluso Ogundare in Emure Ekiti.
Ogundare, a loyalist of a federal lawmaker and governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Ekiti State, Opeyemi Bamidele,  was murdered during a political meeting in Emure Ekiti on November 3.
Boluwade, with six others, were arraigned at the Chief Magistrate Court 1, Ado-Ekiti on five counts of conspiracy to murder, unlawfully causing Ogundare’s death, the offence punishable under Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code, Cap C16, laws of Ekiti State 2012.
They were also accused of intent to kill another person and unlawfully shooting and injuring Mrs. Ige Beatrice with bullet wounds on the buttocks.
They were also accused of causing “grievous harm” to Tope Okeya, by causing fracture to his hands in violation of Section 355 of the Criminal Code, Cap C16 laws of Ekiti State 2012.
Also, the accused persons were said to be found with firearms “without lawful reason” in violation of Section 403(3) of the Criminal Code, Cap C16, laws of Ekiti State 2012.
The Prosecution counsel, Samson Oshbu, said the accused persons committed a capital and serious offence in the land.
He pleaded for a date pending an advice from the Director of Public Prosecution.
Counsel for the accused persons, Ademola Okeya, who led other counsel in the case, agreed with the application.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Soji Adegboye, adjourned the case to January 10, 2014 for mention
