REVEALED: United States Election Ads Blitz Donald Trump Buys YouTube's Homepage

You'll see a lot of Donald Trump on YouTube this fall as a new report reveals his reelection campaign purchased advertising space that'll dominate the video-sharing platform's homepage leading up to Election Day 2020.

YouTube will turn into a political battleground this fall. Bloomberg reports the reelection campaign for Donald Trump secured advertising space on YouTube's homepage leading up to Election Day 2020. Nobody knows the content of the ads yet, but they'll all get positioned at the top of the video-sharing platform in an area directly beneath the search bar. The ads will run before and on Election Day, which features Trump at the top of the Republican Party's ticket.

Sources didn't indicate how much the Trump campaign is spending, but estimates suggest YouTube's homepage could cost more than $1 million per day. It likely depends on current events, and something like a presidential election probably drives up the price significantly.

The ads will not target specific demographics, however. YouTube's homepage displays the same ad for all users, at least in the US, and typically for an entire day. As the Trump campaign purchased multiple windows, it's likely that different messages will appear on different days. So the ads will earn significant impressions on a continued basis leading up to Election Day. Now, the Trump campaign can consider other platforms as it fills out its digital strategy.

Brad Parscale, who serves as Trump's campaign manager, said as much as $500 million might get spent on online ads.

No other candidate could purchase the homepage's ad space in advance as the Democratic Party still needs to declare a nominee who will run against Trump. Candidates such as Michael Bloomberg and Tom Steyer could've afforded the slot due to their net worths, but they're not on clear paths to secure the nomination. It could take many more months for the Democratic Party to find its nominee, and then all resources will go toward their campaign.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3. Some voters can participate in early voting, but the Trump campaign plans on targeting those who will enter the ballot box hours before a winner emerges through timely ads. It'll run ads on all types of media; however, YouTube and other digital-based platforms could turn out as the most expensive. If you're on YouTube this fall, prepare to see a lot of Trump.
